Together
we are...
Growing
First Mennonite Church
of Middlebury invites you to join with us in a journey as we
continue to learn what it means to follow Jesus in these times
and in this place.
With a ministry in
Middlebury for one hundred years, First Mennonite Church
is working to change and grow with our rapidly expanding community.
We are a congregation
with a rich heritage. We also anticipate the challenges of a
new century. As we open our hearts to the movement of God’s
spirit we rejoice in the arrival of new life in our midst.
Worshipping
Our
worship blends both contemporary and traditional music, occasional
dramas, and a seasonal adult choir. We place an emphasis on community
and take time to listen to the joys and challenges we each experience
on our individual journeys.
Sharing
Wednesday
night fellowship meals, all-church carry-ins, an annual picnic, children’s
clubs, Prime Timers (for older adults) and Mennonite Women also
help us build community life.
Learning
There are many opportunities
to learn about the journey with Jesus. An active Christian education
program is available for all ages-—from nursery to older
adult.
Vacation Bible School
helps keep the momentum going. In addition, a Bible memory program
encourages children (and adults too!) to memorize scriptures
that provide encouragement in the journey.
We value the importance
of ministry to youth. Myron Bontreger, our associate
pastor, along with the Youth Council and youth sponsors provide
a strong support structure for our middle-and high-schoolers.
Youth participate
in regular Bible studies and social events, take part in a variety
of service projects and attend the bi-annual national Mennonite
Youth Conventions.
Serving
and Peacemaking
As part of the historic
peace-church movement, we believe there are many opportunities
to share God’s love in a broken world. So we work to share
the message of Chirst’s peace through global and local
mission. We actively support Mennonite Board of Missions workers
in Nepal, Israel, Argentina and Benin.
First Mennonite is
also active in local ministry through the Middlebury Community
Food Pantry, which we house, and through such programs as La
Casa and MDC Goldenrod.
